regarding idol worship and picture worship...
question is... were there pictures and paintings at that time too or it was idols only?

because idols are basically 3d pictures at the end of it...

lol and talking about worshiping stones
we should really go to hatt sahib and see whats happening there :-)

Matha tekna fotoyan ja murtiya nu iko gal aa (jida ke tusi samjhaya: 3 dimensional pic = idol).

I can't believe that in this day and age, I have to explain to people that knowledge of God (the shabad, the word) is more important than a picture or statue depicting some creative physical features.  This should be easy to grasp.

Maybe you should understand, just because koyee photo nu matha tekda, oh sirf photo nu nahi matha tekda. Did you ever think maybe they are bowing to something that is represented by that photo?

Not everything is as plain and simple as black and white, sometimes you need to understand something before you start commenting on it like an expert.

What do you know about Hinduism or idols or pictures or what they represent?

Just because someone doesn't see things your way, doesn't mean it's your god given right to make them see it your way. They have their opinion and way of life.

I can't believe in this day and age, you think a statue or an idol represents mere physical features.

Jehde lokan ne eh mandir banaya pehlan tan ohna nu apeyi sochna chahida. Guru Granth Sahib ji vich buttan/moortiya di pooja, aarti, te fokke reet rivajan nu khandan keeteyo aa ke ehna naal tuhanu rabb prapat nahi hona. Te fer ohi loki kidhan Guru Granth Sahib ji nu naal rakh sakde aa.  Two conflicting ideologies that do not go together.

How dare you call someone's reeti rivaaj fokke? Who the heck are you to judge someone else's beliefs and ways?

What I know is that an inanimate object that does not spread any knowledge will not help?  The continual of such a tradition will further result in the next generation not seeing much either. What is it that you understand from bowing to an idol? Bowing to knowledge is one thing, now compare that with bowing to a figure that somebody thought up.  God is formless, why are we assigning forms to Him?  God is everywhere, why are we not bowing to (anything else you can think up)?  God is timeless, why are we restricting Him to the past (as is done with an idol)?  By worshipping an idol, we are restricting God. When you think God, what do you want to think? An idol which has this and that physical features.  Or do you want to think about the avatar that idol is representing (i.e. Lord Krishna, Brahma, etc.)?

All these arguments are further explained here (which uses quotes from Guru Granth Sahib ji and Guru Gobind Singh ji's texts).  I urge you to please read.

I'm not bent on changing people to believe what only I think. There are people that do not believe in God, some see God in a stone, some in the dead, etc.  I only proclaim that Sikhs are guided by their Gurus (according to the these quotes) to not fall short when trying to reach God. I cannot teach anybody else, but I can make realize to a person who believes in the Sikh philosophy what the Gurus showed.

Please understand that I'm not telling Hindus to do anything, I'm only telling people who subscribe to Gursikhi what to do.  This is not to say that whatever Gursikhi is, it is not for others to follow (that is your own choice).

Lastly, please do not think that I am holier than anybody here.  I am a hypocrite of the greatest degree, I perfectly know that I am a victim of lust, anger, greed, attachment and pride, yet I do not do enough to break from them.  I talk big words (evidence above), but my actions are worthless.  I am probably the lowest one here, because even though I read Nanak's message, I am still the useless idiot who does not do anything to change.

well even in rigveda its written that there is only one god. no second no third....

"Na tasya pratima asti"
"There is no likeness of Him"

[Rigveda 8:1:1]10
The Brahma Sutra of Hinduism is:
"Ekam Brahm, dvitiya naste neh na naste kinchan"
"There is only one God, not the second; not at all, not at all, not in the least bit."

but these hindus dont bother...

well few lines from Guru Granth Sahib Ji which totally denies worshiping idols...

Kabeer, someone sets up a stone idol and all the world worships it as the Lord.
Those who hold to this belief will be drowned in the river of darkness. ||136||
Kabeer, the paper is the prison, and the ink of rituals are the bars on the windows.
The stone idols have drowned the world, and the Pandits, the religious scholars, have plundered it on the way. ||137||

The Hindus have forgotten the Primal Lord; they are going the wrong way.
As Naarad instructed them, they are worshipping idols.
They are blind and mute, the blindest of the blind.
The ignorant fools pick up stones and worship them.
But when those stones themselves sink, who will carry you across? ||2||
baba nanak says...
..............................................................................
To be a sikh you must not be superstitious.. thats i guess d only reasons we sikhs are putting our marks in every field of success....
superstitions and idol worship make us weaker and confused..
well one can not walk carrying two confusions at a time.... one is of life another one is gods....lolzz
life wali taan chalo sari jindagi rehni aa but at least duje pason taan banda befikr ho je
