Commonwealth games second major sporting event after Olympic games, these games are inspired by Olympic games.

In the past history this is the second time that such kind of a grand event will be organized in Asia. Opening and closing ceremonies of Commonwealth Games will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, Delhi. On the 14th’Oct’2010 public holiday is declared on closing of this event. Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, president of Indian Olympic Association will be the head of the organizing committee.
At least of 2.6 million people are expected to come in Delhi to participate as viewer of Common Wealth Games 2010.

HUGE COST OF THIS EVENT-
While hosting a mega sports event, some escalation in costs is understandable as new projects get added and the scale of the show is expanded.

However, in the case of Delhi's Commonwealth Games, official cost estimates have gone up by a whopping 525% since the city won the bid. Unofficial assessments put the escalation at a mindboggling 1575% - that is more than 15 times the original estimate - according to an independent report released on Thursday.

India's bid document for the Commonwealth Games in 2003 estimated the cost of hosting the event at Rs 1,899 crore.

After several revisions the estimates now range from an official figure of Rs 10,000 crore to independent experts at an astounding Rs 30,000 crore.

If you watch Indian news at all, you would know how much of that have gone to corruption. Companies not even on the pay roll have been found to have corruption cases in these games. Looks like these games helped all those contractors make extra money.

Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell is “very satisfied” New Delhi will be ready for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in October, according to Bigpond News.

I saw on TV yesterday Road to Delhi .. and they were showing toronto and how they were waving Indian and canadian flags. Indian people also there representing Canada I felt so good :)

Eh India ne nai rakhiya.. Its cause all the countries which are part of Commonwealth of nation will play commonwealth games. i guess there are 54 countries.

Commonwealth Games 2010 India Theme Song - A R Rahman.

Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman has come under heavy criticism for his latest composition which is the theme song of the upcoming Commonwealth games.
Many politicians and fans of Rahman believe that the said theme song does not match up to the genius of Rahman. They are also miffed by the fact that it took six months and Rs 5 crore for Rahman to come up with such a shoddy composition.

Now, Rahman is re-working on the song since it lacks any appeal. The organisers now want Rahman to compose the CWG theme song on the level of the recent FIFA theme song waka waka which became an instant hit across the globe.
