I wud like to try to answer this question..London Punjabi if u dont mind.............................................

...........................Therfore, We can Conclude this map must be made before 15th centuary or 18th century most proable before 18th century..

Okay KUDRAT GREWAL ji, I can see where you are going with this. However, the one glaring contradiction is the fact that map is in English. Therein lays the problem which causes the question I posed to arise.

I agree with you London Punjabiji..English came to Punjab very late..Punjabi is Part of Punjab's Culture since 11th century..
if we talk about Languages, The sacred books of Hinduism were first written in the Ancient Punjabi (Prakrit), which were later translated into Sanskrit.According to the 2008 Census of Pakistan, there are 76,335,300 native Punjabi speakers in Pakistan and according to the Census of India, there are 29,102,477 Punjabi speakers in India.there are 88 million native speakers of the Punjabi language, which makes it approximately the 13th most widely spoken language in the world.

As fas as Punjab's Map is concerned, I think this is in translated form and its in English for better understanding all over the world. Rest if u know anything more other  than this plz share..I wud love to read..

KUDRAT GREWAL ji, No doubt, I do not disagree with you regarding the Punjab or the historical roots of its language. However, my mere question relates not to the use of English but the omission of the Sikhs from the map. Whoever wrote the “key” to the map clearly did not understand the history of the area, it would have been recent history at that.

More additions to Punjabi Folk Dances..

1.Area no 1 Belongs to Bhangra..

2.In Area 1+2 Both Bhangra and Luddi were popular

3.Area no 2 is sub- montane region of Punjab where "Patti" type of Ludi dance is Popular.

4.Jhumar was more popular in 3a, 3b and 3c areas of Punjab.

From Historical Point of view one thing need to notice is that Jhumar was used have more area Popularity than rest of Folk dances even more than Bhangra..
So in this different areas Jhumar was popular with different names..
a) As 3A areas lies b/w River RAVI & CHENAB so it was named as "RAVI DA JHUMAR".
b)As 3B lies b/w River SATLUJ & RAVI In this area Special Form oh Jhumar was popular known as "NEELI DA JHUMAR".
c) 3c area comes b/w RAVI, CHENAB & JEHLAM so this was area of BLAUCHs and Jhumar was popular as "Lambian Da Jhumar".

5, In Area NO- 4 Malwai Gidha Was popluar.

GIDHA IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS MAP AS ITS POPULAR IN BOTH EAST AND WEST PUNJAB. THIS DANCE WAS POPULAR FROM RIVER "GHAGGAR" TO "RIVER INDUS" i.e IN THE ENTIRE SAPT SINDHU.

Kudrat Grewal Ji

That is very interesting. Have you a link to that map or other info around it such as an article one could read.

I wonder how old that map in Jhanda Amli’s second post is. If you look at the little key at the bottom explaining the religions there is a trishul for Hindus, a Crescent and Star for Muslims, a Swastika for the Buddhists and a Triangle for the Pre-Historic folk (ha ha).

According to that map the Sikhs did/do not exist. How odd; I could have swore the Sikhs ruled the place for many a year.

The map doesn't have a year printed on it. And since it is of Punjab, the place which dates back even before Sikhism started, it could still be accurate to those times. BTW, the map is from punjabonline.com. I know the owner of the website (he's a respected Sikh person). I don't think he would be trying to create a bias. I could be wrong.

PS: Lots of literature about Punjab is written in English.
