1939: Precocious puberty allowed Lina Medina of Tricapo, Peru to become pregnant at 5 years, 7 months, and 21 days old; she gave birth to a 2.0 kg (4.4 lb) son, named Gerardo, by caesarean section on May 14, 1939 in Lima. Her parents, who assumed their daughter had a tumor, took her to a hospital, where she was determined to be seven months pregnant. Although Medina's father was arrested on suspicion of child sexual abuse, he was later released due to lack of evidence, and the identity of who impregnated Medina was never uncovered.The mystery remains unsolved about the father of Gerardo. Both mother and son died in the age of 40 and 76 respectively.

This is neither an isolated incident, or something that has never happened in every place on earth. This is rare, but not unheard of. Shameful that this child had to endure the act that got her pregnant, the pregnancy, the birth itself and living with the nightmare of every element of it for the rest of her life. And we call ourselves human?

Makes you wonder what chemicals/genetics induced her fertility at such a young age. :/

Was abortion noi available at that time frame?

Also, wondering to what happened to the "dog" that commited such heinous crime?!

Doctors had conducted very detailed studies since the diagnostic of the pregnancy which aroused much curiosity in the country; he took an x-ray of the child and her baby, established a diagnostic of the fetal situation, observed the state of functionality of the little mother who had begun menstruating at the age of 8 months. At four years old she had already developed breasts as well as pubic hair, her body proportions were a bit amazing and her bone hardening a bit advanced, things that are often observed in cases of such premature pregnancy.

Being Catholics, her family didn't let her abort.

After taunting from schoolmates, Medina's son, Gerardo - who was named after one of the doctors who attended Medina and who became their mentor - discovered when he was 10 that the person he had grown up believing to be his sister was in fact his mother.

Medina herself married and in 1972 had a second son, 33 years after her first. Her second child now lives in Mexico.

Miss Einstein, you unintentionally cited an example for one of my tips on "How to Increase Your Memory." When you connect an idea by relating it to somthing else you already understand, You are effectively creating a bridge between what you understand intuitively and the things you struggle with. When you read about Medina "the youngest mother" you related your thoughts to the move "the last house on the left". This is one way to increase your memory "by relating things, ideas, incidents to somthing you already know" :mean: :mean:
