Introduction
Yoga is one of the most ancient cultural heritage of India. The word yoga in Sanskrit means "to unite", and so yoga can be said to connote a unitive discipline. In this sense it is an exercise in moral and mental cultivation that generates good health (arogya), contributes to longevity (chirayu), and the total intrinsic discipline culminates into positive and perennial happiness and peace. Therefore, yoga is the said to be indispensable of the ultimate accomplishment in life. It is a science that affects not only the conscious self but the subconscious as well. It is a practical physiological training (kriya yoga), which if practiced can exalt man to the 'supra mundane level'.

What Yoga Is Not
There are too many misconceptions clouding the science of Yoga. People perceive it to be some kind of black or white magic, sorcery, physical or mental debauchery through which miraculous feats can be performed. For some it is an extremely dangerous practice which should be limited to only those who have renounced the world. Few others think it to be a kind of mental and physical acrobatism that is compatible only to a Hindu mind.

What Yoga Really Is
Yoga is an all-embracing way of life, a science of self-culture and mental discipline that ensures the purgation of the ignoble in man and brings forth what is most noble in him. It is pertinent to all people irrespective of his caste, creed, sex, and religion. It can be beneficial to all - the good and the bad, the sick and the healthy, the believer and the non-believer, the literate and the ignorant, the young and the old. A person may begin at any age and can go on reaping its benefits.

The Origin of Yoga
Yoga had its genesis in the wandering ascetics who sought the solitude of the forests to practice this ancient science and then imparted their knowledge to the ardent students (mumuksu) who lived in their ashrams. The ancient yogins were possessive about this art form and did not make any effort to popularize yoga. The yogic postures and the subsequent stages of yoga were handed down only to the deserving students. Hence, this science remained limited to the confines of the forests or remote caves.Very little was known about this Vedic practice until the Yoga Institute of Santa Cruz, Mumbai was founded in 1918, which became India's oldest technical institute on Yoga.

Yoga is a spiritual science of self-realisation. It comes from India and goes back over five thousand of years. The Indian sage Pantajali, in his Yoga sutras defines yoga as the control of the activities of the mind. Yoga methods encompass the entire field of our existence, from the physical, emotional and mental to the spiritual. Its methods include ethical disciplines, physical postures, breath control, as well as meditation.

Classical yoga as defined by Patanjali is an eight stages process of spiritual development (the eight limbs of yoga). The first two stages are ethical disciplines (Yamas and Nyamas). Then come postures (Asanas in Sanskrit) and breathing exercises (Pranayama). The last four limbs are meditative stages: control of the sense (Prathyara), concentration (Dharana), meditation (Dhyana) and enlightenment (Samadhi).

Yoga has become a very common term in the Western world today, and yoga classes can be found in virtually every town. Most Westerners identify yoga with hatha yoga.
Hatha yoga seeks to promote health and well-being through physical exercise. The regular practice of asanas, and breathing exercises (pranayama), makes the body strong, supple and healthy. It has a profound effect on the circulation and on the functioning of the inner organs, glands and nerves, keeping all systems in radiant health and leading to greater energy, better concentration, and a happier, more fulfilling life. Many common physical ailments can also be improved through the regular practice of yoga, and it is never too late or too early in life to take it up. Anyone can practice yoga. Nowadays, one can learn yoga in lessser spiritual set-ups due to the availability of video instructionals and internet tutorials. It is somewhat a debate whether yoga's essence has faded because of videos and such. Although there are still real yoga practicioners in real meditative set-ups and hopefully the tradition stays. There has been filmproduktion and documentaries in the past about yoga. Some of which were experimental, vivid and filmed in a cinematique way like nico beyer visual sequences.

There are many styles of yoga.
Amongst the most popular are:

    * Ashtanga Yoga a fast flowing, aerobic yoga workout
    * Iyengar Yoga strong, precise style of yoga for the fitness conscious
    * Viniyoga a gentler style with emphasis on healing
    * Satyananda yoga, a gentle style of traditional Hatha Yoga, suitable for all age and shape.
    * Bikram Yoga, a dynamic style of yoga, practised in a heated room.
    * Kundalini yoga focuses on the release of internal energy, using postures, breathing and meditation.

Can any one explain candidly "What's Yoga?" Even a comprehensive explanaion will do.

If you ask questions like that, you'll just get copy/paste definitions from all over the web.

ya i know but doncha think this way, atleast, they get to know somthing new. The irony is we all know the exact meaning of Yoga. Word yoga originates from Sanskrit. It means "to add". Even in Hindi and panjabi Yog means "to add". I wud wait for few more answers before i explain the exact meaning of Yoga. The key to ans is "Man jeete Jagu jeet".

Rahul Veer, i gonna tell you one thing. Practice it, experiment it and let me know how u felt during that experiment.

Shut yourself in a quiet room where u aint distrubed by outside noise. Now keep an alarm clock on a table and sit on a chair like 1/1.2-2 ft away from dt table. It wud be betta if room is dimly lit only. Now try to concentrate on tick tick sound of alarm clock. It wud a lil difficult but try your best. Mind wud keep wavering from one thing to other but dont let it wave. Just concentrate on tick tick of clock. Do it and tell me what did u experience?
I wanna know during this concentration were u breathing faster or were u breathing slower than your normal speed of breathing.

Question:  : Four bags of candy are placed in front of you.
In all, there are 100 pieces of candy. There are 22 in the first bag and 18 in the second.
The third bag has twice as many as the fourth bag.
How many pieces of candy are in the third and fourth bags?

next question
You are baking a cake and only have two measuring cups.
One measures 1 cup and the other measures 3 cups.
If you need 5 cups of flour, how could you use your cups to get exactly 5 cups?
BONUS: How could you use both cups to find exactly 2 cups of sugar?

I don't follow The question

So you need 5 cups of Flour with a help of Cup that Measures - 1 Cup and 3 Cup - How many time you could measure with you measuring Cups?
if its Unlimited times then -
Pour flour once by 3 Measuring Cup , then by Two Times by 1 Measuring Cup

So 3 + 2*1 = 5 ... NO? :dnk:
