okay guys, so I'm a confused 16 year old kid in Texas and I kinda want to become a doctor (yes, the stereotypical Indian choice). I'm leaning towards the physician shit but who knows, my mind could easily change or something. But I see myself becoming a physician. Now there's just one problem.

I have no idea how to become a doctor, or the road there, or how hard it is

I hear people saying "o, it's so hard you'll kill yourself" or "aww naw dawg, it's easy"

..... :marro:

but basically, bottom line, I decided to dip into the bottomless pit of knowledge and power of PJ

can you help me out guys? how do I become a doctor? and what's the road like? and are there any other cool jobs out there....

But if you can share with us, what is your GPA and what subjects do you like?

I have a bunch of interaction with the docs, some recent grads, some still in med school and some with a years of experience.

As far as getting started, ofcourse you need to ge a BS in one of the sciences, following that with med school. Med school isn't that bad, ofcourse you can't slack offm, you still need to study. The following years get tricky, internship/residency - you work like a dog, forget about social life :). Even once you're an official doc, you still work like a dog. Also, workload varies on speciality too.

You have plenty of time to decide which speciality you want to get into, while you are in med school.

Lastly, all I would say is, if you want to become a physician, make sure that's what you want from the heart and not just for the money, cuz otherwise you won't last.

3.9 GPA, and that's after I get the 15 points from my AP classes....Math comes ridonkulously easy to me, I got about a 95 in AP Biology, but not gonna lie, sometimes it gets boring. I'm not wanting to become a doctor only for the money, I'm not the greedy Indian type, it's other reasons as well. The only thing I can see myself being other than a Doctor is just some guy who owns a hotel or some shit. I can't really think of anything else.

And yes, I know residency is hell. I heard that after you get all that shit over with the doctor life becomes easy? perhaps I heard wrong. Exactly how hellish is residency? shiiiiiiii- o well

and if you guys are reading this thread and aren't going into the medical field or something, can anyone name a pretty cool job or the one you're planning on doing? This if I either a) switch my interest to something else or b) become a miserable failure and bomb out of medical school....not literally bomb..but...you know, SHUT UP X_X

- Do a Bachelor degree (Mostly Science but you other options too work untill u meet the minimum requirement. Mostly biology, chemistry... Takes about 4 Years
- In your last year you will write a write a MCAT exam. This is a key for you to get into a MED School with other factors like your Overall GPA in 4 years
- Then in MED School.. 4 more years... So probably first two years in studing and then a clinical practice.
- And then comes the residency
- So by the time you graduate you will be old..

and if you saying that you not good at memorizing or not willing to learn all those big books.. You are in a rong option.. They will kill you before the Medical school. I have a friend who got an overall average of 83 and good MCAT score but he is finding too difficult to get a school. Well Easiest way is to apply in the School of Manipur and get ur BS.. they have a direct contact with Caribean school which are credited by US. (but do ur research as some schools are being dehicted from carribea.

-> And other things you can do ... DO a Engineering.. Work for 2 years.. Then go for a MBA .. Its way better than the medical field (may be cause i think that medical ppl got attitude issues :pagel: ) and well paid (But keep in mind engineering Undergrad is the hardest as compare to any other undergrads). By doing this you will be getting straight into the management. So the Minimum post will be a Plant Manager (or any field manager) or you can even get into Board of Directors on a longer run... But Neither MBA is easy nor Engineering is easy.. This is what i have in mind if everything fall in place :pagel:

-> Other option for Medical BS student is Pharmacy .. Good paid profession .. Easiest way: Do pharmacy in India for 5 years and do the licensing here :pagel:

Anyways regarding option you can have..."So that I dont offend Accounting ppl .. Accounting is also a good options eh... " :pagel:

-> You can get into CA (chartered accountant) So first BS (math and business) then CA. I would say if you good with number go with an option of actuary Science. These are one of highest paid undergrad people.. So intense study for 4-5 years. They do predicition for various banks to what rate to offer and stuff (for both insurance and all these Line of credits and stuff).. So most ppl get into executive very quickly... but having said that getting to higher position comes with sleepless nights.. :pagel:

-> And if you just worri about money well ppl do a freaking real estate diploma also have money. If you have good business with real estate ..Selling like 3-4 houses in a month. You are a millionare.. But usually the thing is selling 3-4 houses.. which happens only with ppl who are 20 years into this profession

- So All i can advise is dont put money as your prority.. You got a long life and Money will come no matter wat, as you will be putting in efforts at all time... Do what interest you.. Even a guy who do life insurance have enough money if he is commited to what he do (each insurance give him about 1000 bucks and if he a broker he gets 20% of what the ppl under him do)! .. I was reading an article the other day .. a US Nurse in the ICU is earning more than a US doctor.. So dont close your doors on just being a medical person and thats the only thing that got money

And also never take a short cut .. If you have an opournity of studying (doing a degree) do it.. Cause this will make sure that you will have something to feed on for the entire life while a shortcut can fail anytime .. :)

Computer Scientist/Programmer banja je dil karda. Par okha bahut aa school vich je math ghat aunda ja sehnsheelta (paitience) na hove, eh tenu huneyi das dina, ohna ne teri fook kad deni sari. Te je naal naal pay vi theek theek hundi. Je hor vadna fulna, ta fer MBA karni pehni.
