I would not appreciate it if it were any female related to me, unless it was by her husband and/or life partner (in which case I would expect it to remain private to them). Also, I think the word "purja" is a little condescending.

Although I do the see the flirt potential in all the words lol, in which case, I don't see anything wrong with them.

This post was made so that I could get a better understanding of the word and meaning and how people felt about it.
Jo meri understanding si es word di, main odhe hisaab naal eh naam rakhiya si, and hun holi holi menu pata laggiya ki this word "patola" is not what I was making it to be, main sochiya ki apne PJ teh pushde aa ki maybe I could a feel for what it actually is and how people react to it.

Sir, apna aap parkhan di koshish kiti si ehe, that's why I asked this question. Menu koi supna ni si aaya ki main apni bezti karawa etthe, kuj sikhan di koshish kardi si es topic through. Thank you apne 2 cents paun layi, but until someone ask's a question, they cannot get an answer. That's exactly what I did, I asked a question so that I can get an answer so that I would know the name that I've given myself is not worthy of use.

And to everyone in general--

Eh topic main es karke ni si banaya ki tusi saare ral ke mere teh gang-up karo, I made this topic, as i mentioned above, so that I could learn the true meaning of words such as mentioned. Main Indian culture de vich nai jada rahi, I was born in India but at the age of 6 I was put into a boarding school in England where there was no indians and I grew up with the Catholic religion. I came back to USA to my parents at the age of 16 and that's when I started to learn Punjabi. Even then, I didn't have much link with the Indian community, So the info that I know about the Indian culture or religions or traditions are through my very own immediate family. The word "patola" was portraied to me as something far different then what I'm learning now. That was my main reason for posting this questions.

Why is it that everyone has to have an explanation of everything. And tusi saare hun vi dekhiya, ki kisse mahaan hasti ne mere es update vicho vi koi na koi gal kad ke menu fer neeva dikhouna, and that's ok, because I did it to myself.

and "rabb rakha, or kush reh, or waheguru ja rabb mehar kare" eh galla kehn naal tusi koi mahaan ni bann jande, asi saare insaan aa, galtiya insaan toh hundiya, jeh asi galtiya naa kariye tah asi rabb hunde. And jeh koi insaan apni galti toh sikhan di koshish karda, tah jagg ohnu sahi sikhoun di jaga ohde teh hor unglaa chukda.

Patola word originated from Gujrati language which means "Silk". I thought it is used for beautiful girl in punjabi. like kafi lokgeeta vich boliya vich v patola word use hunda.. even we have one old punjabi movie named " Patola".

Ammu, I'm not a bhola panchi lol and I can NEVER claim myself to be one, but what you said here is what my understanding of this was. And I second guessed things because someone brought up something to me which shared a complete different meaning of patola. I don't have any problem with what you said it means, my questions was focusing on what this other person had said to me.

As somebody already mentioned above it is used in Gurbani, it goes like "Prem Patola Tai Sheh Ditta, Taakan Ko Patt Meri" which means Oh Lord, you have given me this piece of cloth (patola) of your love to cover and protect my honor.
Well everything can be seen from both positive and negative perspectives, but it is always good to look at the brighter side. "Patola" the word is not a negative word, in Punjabi it actually means "soft toys" to be more specific in villages it is referred to homemade dolls which are made by putting pieces of cloth together and is made without the use of any plastic.
So when guys use it they might don't even know the actual meaning but they use the word to admire the beauty and softness which they lack in a flirtatious way.
