Street Beggars

Do you guys give money to street beggars?

I, myself, find it very difficult to say "No" to them, so, I always end up throwing a few bucks. Eventhough, I know, majority of them spend it on alcohol/drugs. Some of them are very capable of finding jobs and working like the rest of us.

Well I cant say that I give everytime/or dont give. Most of the times I do  if its a kid or a person with disability or very old or something ... even if someone looks hungry ... cant resist giving them some money.

But sometimes I can see that people are perfectly capable of doing something and still just taking the easy route - I dont give them anything.

Baaki India aala haal te hor hi aa ... mere piche ik vaar bachiyaa di sena pai gayi si plaza vich ... .. mainu ki pata si unhada network hunda... ik bache nuun main de ditta  ... bass aage saare mere piche ... man it was so embarassing and irritating. :whew: :whew:

I haven't had the India experience yet, it sounds frightening. Do, they pull on your clothes and stuff, like physically touch you. urrrghhh I would get so agitated.

I used to do the same, but not anymore. I'm currently working at a liquor store and homeless people always come and they use all of their money to buy alcohol. They drink, drink and drink until the ambulance comes and picks them up. After they are released from the hospital, they do the same thing over and over until they end up kill themselves by drinking so much. I have seen so much; they just want to die and not live. There are homeless shelters and agencies that are willing to help these people, but what can you do, when they just don't want to be helped? I know this homeless guy who always come our liquor store, some agency helped him get on track. He was working and everything, but now he's back to his old days, drinking, drinking and more drinking.  It got the the point where we have stopped selling alcohol to these homeless people now days. So if you are giving them money, you are just killing them. There is another homeless guy around the place where I work, he doesn't drink. He's always just sitting at the same spot every day. One restaurant gives him free food anytime he wants.

In India, I do give money to old people, disabled or kids. Also titlee when I went to India in december, I had a foj of bachyian after me too. I felt so bad for them and gave them the money I had in my pocket, but they would just not leave me, this one bacha started grabbing onto my jeans, I told him to parah hat or I was going to slap him just to scare him. He just would not stop even after I told him that, then I got inside the car and they grabbed onto the car and started banging on the windows. This is when I got mad, I grabbed the hockey from the side and got outside, then they ran away. It's like they were trained to get as much money they can from people.

If I have anything in my pocket I'll give but I won't dig into my wallet to hand them money usually. I prefer giving to the street performers than the beggars. Oh in India I get a bunch of change from the bank and just hand that out...but beggars now a days are soo demanding they don't even accept anything under 10 rupees!

If you're just passing on the street, isn't it easier to spare a few bucks than to go out and gather the above items? Realistically speaking =/

Never have any bad experiences with beggars in India or in US.
India vich kayee bache bahut sohna gayunde ne teh fer oh paise collect karde hunde ne.. ohna nu kafi baar ditte ne..
Baki US.. I have come across beggars in San Fransisco and at Time square in NYC.. Ohna ne kade kujh nai kiha.. They usually carry one board which says like "We are homeless please give us money" or " I want to buy one bottle of beer so need money" .. par ohna nu kade nai ditte mein.. becoz vekhn nu theek thak lagde hunde ne so kade mann ja nai kitta den nu..

I would so help that person. lol
I once saw a lady who was begging for money with a nicely made portfolio of her bad luck. It was lamented and everything. Had colored pictures and paragraphs underneath them... like I have 5 kids I can't work because of blah blah. I thought it was quite funny.

Their faces tug at ma heartstrings! So I do give away some. Whenever I get the money changed, make sure that I keep some change for them.

Besides, this puts me in mind of a poem " THE BEGGAR MAN." I recited this poem when I was in primary school, & won the first prize.

Don't see any on the streets.

Yeah, we hardly have any of them. One morning I gave some bucks to a  Maori pauper on the queen, same day arvo this dude was standing next to the bar school, taking in drugs :loll:

True that. There's always a place for them to stay though so yeah.
